Cookie Policy

1. What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files stored on your device by your web browser. They are used to remember your preferences, keep you logged in, and help us understand how people use our website. Some cookies are essential for the service to work; others help us improve it.

2. How we use cookies

We use cookies in two places: our landing page (clockrota.com) and our app (app.clockrota.com). The cookies are different for each.

2.1 Landing page (clockrota.com)

Cookie Provider Purpose Type Consent required?
_ga, _ga_* Google Analytics 4 Measures how visitors use the landing page (page views, traffic sources, time on page). Data is anonymised and aggregated. Analytics (non-essential) Yes

Google Analytics cookies are only set if you consent via our cookie banner. If you decline, no analytics cookies are placed and your visit is not tracked.

2.2 App (app.clockrota.com)

Cookie Provider Purpose Type Consent required?
authjs.session-token / __Secure-authjs.session-token NextAuth (ClockRota) Keeps you logged in to your account. Expires after 30 days. Strictly necessary No
__stripe_mid, __stripe_sid Stripe Fraud prevention and payment security during checkout. Strictly necessary No

The app does not use any analytics, advertising, or tracking cookies. Only strictly necessary cookies are used, and these do not require your consent under UK law.

3. Local storage

In addition to cookies, the app uses your browser's local storage for a small number of preferences:

  • cr_push_dismissed — remembers if you dismissed the push notification prompt
  • cr_hsbanner_dismissed — remembers if you dismissed the "add to home screen" banner

These are not cookies and do not track you across websites. They simply remember your UI preferences on your own device.

4. Managing cookies

You can control cookies through:

  • Our cookie banner — on the landing page, you can accept or decline analytics cookies. Your choice is remembered.
  • Browser settings — most browsers let you block or delete cookies. See your browser's help documentation for instructions. Note: blocking strictly necessary cookies may prevent the app from working.

To opt out of Google Analytics across all websites, you can install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

5. Third-party cookies

We do not allow any third parties to place advertising or tracking cookies through our service. The only third-party cookies are those listed in section 2 (Google Analytics on the landing page, and Stripe in the app), both of which serve specific, disclosed purposes.

6. Changes to this policy

If we add new cookies or change how we use them, we will update this policy and, where required, ask for your consent again.

7. Contact

If you have questions about our use of cookies, contact us at hello@clockrota.co.uk.

8. Legal basis

Our use of cookies complies with the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR) and the UK GDPR. Strictly necessary cookies are exempt from consent requirements under PECR Regulation 6. Non-essential cookies (analytics) are only set with your prior consent.
